How to Generate Cryptographically Secure UUIDs (v4)

  1. Select quantity of UUIDs to generate (1 to 50).
  2. Toggle formatting options: Uppercase, Hyphens, or Braces.
  3. The tool generates version 4 UUIDs using the Web Cryptography API (`crypto.getRandomValues()`).

RFC 4122 Version 4 UUID Specification

  • 128-bit identifier with 122 bits of cryptographically secure entropy: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx.
  • The collision probability is so negligible that generating 1 billion UUIDs per second for 100 years carries an infinitesimal collision chance.

Example

  • c8f2b7a1-3b4e-4e9f-8a21-9e7f5b3a2d10

Common Applications

  • Primary keys for distributed databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Session IDs, correlation tokens, and idempotency keys in microservices.
  • Unique transaction identifiers for e-commerce orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these UUIDs cryptographically random?

Yes. They are generated using browser-native CSPRNG (`crypto.getRandomValues()`), not pseudo-random Math.random().

What is the difference between UUID and GUID?

UUID is the international RFC 4122 standard term; GUID is Microsoft’s implementation terminology for the same 128-bit structure.
